Fourth Nanotechnology Stakeholder Dialogue Day
Date:
Following three successful dialogue meetings, FoodDrinkEurope hosted its fourth annual Nanotechnology Stakeholder Dialogue Day meeting entitled ‘Potential food applications of nanotechnologies’ focusing on both global and European aspects on Wednesday 5 October 2011 at the Silken Berlaymont Hotel, Brussels.
The event looked at the current state of European policy and legislation on nanotechnology related to the food industry and compared this with developments at an international level. Examples of future applications in food and related sectors were presented together with a special session dedicated to identifying the knowledge gaps looking at how the industry in partnership with regulators, food chain partners and consumers, can help close these gaps in order to ensure future uses of nanotechnology are met with consumer acceptance founded on a solid safety framework.
Guest speakers included a line-up of senior specialists in the field of nanotechnology – including representatives from the European Commission, the FDA (USA) and EFSA among others.
A wide range of stakeholders from across the globe ranging from policy-makers, NGOs, industry representatives and members of the press fed into this important Stakeholder Dialogue meeting.
