(Brussels, 19 June 2017) FoodDrinkEurope welcomes the European Commission’s actions to simplify the current Common Agricultural Policy (CAP), undertaken since 2015. These actions include the agricultural provisions in the so-called Omnibus proposal, which aim at simplifying without jeopardising the 2013 political agreement on the CAP.
Policy stability and predictability are necessary to avoid disruptions in agricultural production. Ahead of the trilogues on the Omnibus Regulation, FoodDrinkEurope calls for a rapid conclusion of this technical dossier, so that it can enter into application on 1 January 2018.
FoodDrinkEurope welcomes the sound and transparent process for modernising and simplifying the CAP, which includes a wide consultation of all stakeholders and an impact assessment. Our recommendation for the future CAP is to continue the market orientation of European agriculture; we believe it is the most efficient approach to improve the competitiveness of EU farmers and to deliver agricultural raw materials that are in line with the quality and quantity required by consumers.
