Safe Food for European Consumers - WHO World Health Day 2015


With the upcoming World Health Day 2015 focusing on Food Safety, EurActiv and FoodDrinkEurope, are organising a Stakeholder Conference on 16 April, at the Brussels Press Club (4.00 to 6.30pm).

Is our food safe? What are food chain partners, including consumers, doing to guarantee safe food? Can food safety crisis situations be handled effectively? What is the role of decision-makers in ensuring food safety and what can guide their decisions? 

Indeed, safe food is a prerequisite for food security and paramount to the industry. The production, marketing and consumption of safe food are non-negotiable requirements that all partners along the food chain must adhere to, regardless of their place from farm to fork.

Furthermore, the effective functioning of the internal market is key to ensure comparably high levels of food safety for all consumers throughout Europe.

With this on mind, Michael FLUEH, Acting Director - Safety of the food chain at DG SANTE, and invited contributors from the World Health Organisation, the European Parliament and the Food Safety Platform will try to answer these questions.
