Circularity is a decades-long commitment

The Portuguese food and drink industry’s commitment to circularity is not new and has decades of work and proven experience behind it.

The Portuguese food and drink federation, FIPA, is a party to, at institutional level, the “Circular Agreement”, established with APA (Portuguese Agency for the Environment), and to the “Portuguese Pact for Plastics” as well as a key contributor to European knowledge and development projects as the PEFMED .

With regard to the daily commitment of companies in the sector, more are developing sustainable packaging every year – with efforts to move to more recyclable packaging, making better use of by-products for composting, distillery or energy recovery, and in encouraging the best recycling practices from the consumer.
