Background

Mars turns wastewater into biogas

Published: 02/02/2018

As part of its ‘Sustainable in a Generation’ goals, Mars has installed a ground-breaking wastewater treatment site at its Veghel (Netherlands) factory, which produces biogas from the waste water while purifying the water to 99% purity. Similar technology is also in place at Wrigley factories in Poznan (Poland), Porici (Czech Republic) and Biesheim (France). Using the biogas helps reduce the Veghel factory’s annual CO2 emissions by 1.5kton and energy consumption by 2.4 TJ.
