Finnish food industry: Principles of food marketing

The Finnish Food and Drink Industries’ Federation (ETL) has launched the principles of food marketing communications including principles of marketing for children in 2004. ETL has since updated their principles several time sin recent years, with the most recent update in 2023. There is high compliance to the principles among company members.

Self-regulation of food marketing is monitored and developed by the Food Marketing Board, which was launched in the beginning of 2023. It operates in conjunction with the Central Chamber of Commerce.
The task of the Food Marketing Board is to issue statements on whether the marketing of a certain food is against the marketing rules of the International Chamber of Commerce (ICC), the ICC’s interpretive guidelines for food marketing, or the food marketing principles of ETL.
