(Brussels, 25 October 2018) FoodDrinkEurope welcomes the outcome of today’s vote in the European Parliament to end unfair trading practices (UTPs) and make the food supply chain fairer for all actors. UTPs pose a serious threat to established partnerships in the food supply chain and are ultimately detrimental to all operators along the chain, from farmer to consumer.
Speaking after the vote, FoodDrinkEurope Director General, Mella Frewen, said: “We are pleased that today marks a significant step in the right direction, for all actors in the agri-food chain, in our efforts to end unfair trading practices. We now have a historic opportunity to bring fairness and predictability to all in the food supply chain. We thank Paolo De Castro and MEPs who worked hard to eliminate UTPs and we now call on the European institutions to build on what has already been achieved and finalise the Directive in a timely manner.”
