FoodDrinkEurope fully support the objectives of Article 5 of the Packaging and Packaging Waste Regulation (PPWR), including the ambition to reduce consumer exposure to PFAS and to ensure high standards of packaging safety and environmental protection.
While discussing implementing challenges of the PPWR Art. 5 (5), together EU Commission, Member States, and the upstream packaging value chain, FoodDrinkEurope has developed a risk-assessment based approach proposal to help in the compliance documentation of the PPWR Art. 5 (5). We believe that this approach can strongly support the goals of Article 5 (5) and reduce the practical implementation challenges that have been identified amongst stakeholders.
This structured and proportionate risk assessment-based approach can help economic operators demonstrate compliance. We encourage the European Commission and the market surveillance authorities in the member states to consider this approach as a viable solution for the industry.
