Ahead of the forthcoming publication of the EU’s Vision for Agriculture & Food, FoodDrinkEurope has set out the expectations of the food and drink industry – Europe’s largest manufacturing industry – for a competitive, resilient, and sustainable food chain.
First and foremost, we’re looking for a Vision that is focused on making a real impact for Europe’s food and drink makers. A Vision that proposes actions to help, not hinder. A Vision to deliver, not distract. A Vision to drive change, not drive us apart.
Our 4 key recommendations:
- The Vision should explicitly position the Food and Drink Industry as an integral part of the EU’s food and agriculture strategy.
- The Vision should integrate an industrial strategy for agriculture and food (EU Food Investment and Resilience Plan) to unlock both public and private investments aimed at scaling-up sustainable practices, innovation, long-term resilience and food security
- The Vision should embrace policies that provide for long-term predictability and stability, respecting the diversity of farming and food production models, and promoting flexible, inclusive strategies to ensure sustainability and competitiveness at every level of the value chain.
- Based on the Strategic Dialogue, the work programme of the Vision should be co-created with stakeholders from across the agri-food value chain, ensuring broad engagement, early co-ownership, and alignment across the sector.
