Director, Consumer Information, Nutrition & Health

This exciting role is at the cut and thrust of EU policy making, working with Europe’s food and drink businesses and policymakers to develop positions and actions in relation to consumer information, nutrition and health. The role focuses on leading FoodDrinkEurope’s consumer information, nutrition and health department and actively contributing to FoodDrinkEurope’s leadership team.

The successful candidate will have experience in leading a team, managing internal and external stakeholder relationships with tact, diplomacy and persuasiveness, working with EU policy-makers and developing effective public affairs strategies.

Key responsibilities:

  • The Director Consumer Information, Nutrition and Health is part of FoodDrinkEurope’s leadership team and reports to the Director General. Main responsibilities include:
  • Directing a team of two regulatory and policy managers in the area of consumer information, nutrition and health;
  • Developing and implementing effective public affairs strategies on consumer information, nutrition and health related issues in line with the organisation’s roadmap;
  • Co-ordinating the European food and drink industry’s positions on consumer information, nutrition and health dossiers;
  • Stimulating and driving the food and drink industry’s proactive agenda towards sustainable food systems;
  • Ensuring co-ordination and consistency across all governance levels of FoodDrinkEurope;
  • Managing the preparation, organisation and follow-up of relevant FoodDrinkEurope Committees and Working Groups, including the Board of Directors;
  • Representing FoodDrinkEurope at events and in official meetings, developing an authoritative public profile on consumer information, nutrition and health policy at EU and international level;
  • Building and maintaining constructive relations with members and key stakeholders in Brussels;
  • Providing regulatory and policy support to FoodDrinkEurope members;
  • Supporting the development and execution of reputational and policy-related communications campaigns.

Manager, Environment

FoodDrinkEurope is looking for an enthusiastic, knowledgeable, and assertive public affairs professional to join our environment and sustainability team. The Manager will oversee our activities on circular economy, specifically on packaging and packaging waste, product environmental footprint, and food environmental labelling.

Job description

Reporting to the Director of the Environment and Sustainability, your main tasks will be to:

  • Develop, present and promote FoodDrinkEurope positions to help drive the European food and drink industry’s actions on environment and circular economy issues, especially packaging and packaging waste, product environmental footprint, food environmental labelling, and green claims;
  • Develop, coordinate and implement FoodDrinkEurope projects and strategies in these areas;
  • Prepare and run FoodDrinkEurope working groups in charge of the above issues and follow up on agreed action points and decisions;
  • Monitor and analyse environment and circular economy policy developments at EU level;
  • Engage and collaborate with FoodDrinkEurope members, the EU institutions and other key stakeholders;
  • Develop regular updates, briefings, and publications for FoodDrinkEurope members and other target audiences;
  • Represent FoodDrinkEurope at events and official meetings;
  • Support the Environment and Sustainability Director in achieving the goals of the Department, and the organisation in general.

Skills and experience required

  • University degree in environmental sciences or equivalent experience with circular economy issues relevant to the food and drink sector (especially packaging and packaging waste, product environmental footprint, and/ or environmental labelling);
  • 3-5 years of work experience in EU environmental affairs (e.g. policy analysis, drafting of position papers, preparation of stakeholder engagement plans);
  • Good understanding of the EU policy making processes;
  • Excellent writing, communication, networking and negotiation skills;
  • Demonstrated ability to align different interests;
  • Good time management skills;
  • Affinity with the food and drink sector;
  • Fluent English, other EU languages an asset ;
  • Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
