Manager, Food Safety

We are looking for a qualified and highly motivated individual to support our work in food safety at the Department of Food Safety, Research and Innovation.

FoodDrinkEurope represents the European food and drink manufacturing industry. Made up of 291,000 businesses and 4.6 million employees, the food and drink industry buys 70% of all EU agricultural produce and is Europe’s largest manufacturing industry.

Responsibilities

Working in close cooperation with colleagues of the Department, the successful applicant will:

  • Monitor and analyse food policy developments at EU level, provide concise and technical reports to members and draft industry positions in the area of food safety;
  • Organise technical committee meetings, including the drafting of preparatory documents, liaising with member companies and associations, ensuring the follow-up of meetings etc.;
  • Assist members with ‘day-to-day’ questions related to EU food safety policy;
  • Communicate to internal and external audiences;
  • Coordinate FoodDrinkEurope’s contributions in other fora, such as Codex Alimentarius.

Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in biology, chemistry, toxicology, food technology, food science or related areas;
  • 2-3 years of experience in EU Regulatory Affairs on similar topics, ideally within an EU institution, European trade association, or consultancy.
  • Comfortable and experienced with EU technical legislation on food safety and scientific publications (e.g. EFSA reports);
  • Thorough understanding of the EU decision-making process;
  • Fluency in English. Additional EU languages would be a bonus.

  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in multicultural teams;
  • Ability to multi-task, well-organised, and detail-oriented;
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
